According to 2013 statistics, more than 50% of what Iowans dumped into landfills could have been recycled. In some areas, this figure even jumps up to as high as 75%[1]. As of 2013, the gap between tons dumped and tons recycled at Iowa’s top waste agencies is growing. More than 2.86 million tons of waste were deposited in Iowan landfills in 2012, which was about the same as the year prior. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ yearly landfill tonnage reports reflect no dramatic decrease or increase in total tonnage over the past 10 years. In fact, data analysis by Iowa Watch indicates that the percentage of refuse being recycled versus what is landfilled is decreasing. A collaboration with PPR can help the Hawkeye State get back on track and take responsibility for its environmental impact by providing easy plastic waste disposal, which allows Iowan companies to be both economically and environmentally accountable.
